This dishcloth is a great way to get your Kitchen ready for the summer. They are quick and easy to make, so crochet several so that you have one on hand for everything that needs to be wiped down. This free washcloth pattern is the 6th pattern in the “Knit to Crochet” series.

Yarn

  • Coats Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Threat Baker’s Cotton, #1 Super Fine, 150 yds/137 m, Color Green. Approximately 160 yds

Hook and Notions

  • Size Hook: F/5 (3.75mm)
  • Blunt needle for weaving in ends (optional)

Measurement

  • Laying flat width 9 inches, height 9 inches

Gauge

  • 6 stitches and 6 rows = 2 inches

Abbreviations

  • Ch/chs = chain/chains
  • Sc = single crochet
  • Sl st = slip stitch
  • Sp = space

Special Stitches

  • Foundation Half Double Crochet (FHDC) (Foundation Half Double Crochet) Chain 2, yarn over, insert hook into first chain (2nd from the hook), yarn over, pull up through the first loop on the hook (this is your first chain loop). With 3 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through 3 loops. * Yarn over, insert your hook into the first chain loop, yarn over, pull up a loop (this is your second chain loop), yarn over, pull through 3 loops. 2 fhdc completed. Repeat from * until you reach the desired number of fhdc.

Pattern Notes

  1. The dishcloth is worded side to side starting at bottom border and working up. The side borders are worked at the beginning and end of each row.
  2. Ch 2 at beginning of rows counts as 1st hdc throughout unless otherwise stated.

Dishcloth Instructions

FHDC (See Special Stitches) 44
Row 1: Chain 1, work 1 sc in each stitch across. Turn (44 sc)
Rows 2-4: Repeat Row 1. Turn (24 sc)
Row 5: Chain 1, sc in the same stitch as the chain 1 and in the next 3 stitches (border made), * chain 2, skip the next 2 stitches, sc in the next 2 stitches, * repeat from * to * across to the last 4 stitches, sc in the last 4 stitches (border made). Turn (9 ch 2 sps, 26 sc = 44 sts)
Row 6: Repeat Row 5
Row 7: Chain 1, sc in the same stitch as the chain 1 and in the next 3 stitches, work 2 sc in the next chain 2 space, chain 2, skip the next 2 stitches, * repeat from * to * across to the last 4 stitches, sc in the last 4 stitches. Turn (44 sts)
Row 8: Repeat Row 7
Rows 9-39: Repeat Rows 5-8 (44 sts)
Rows 40-44: Repeat Row 1 (44 sc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
