This pattern uses a variation on the Sedge stitch and is quick and easy to pick up after a couple of rounds. The self-striping yarn does all the color work for you!

Hook and Notions
- Size Hook: I (5.5mm)
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle
Measurement – US Terminology
- Hat should fit circumferences of (20″ to 24″)
Gauge
- 9 stitches over 2 inches = 5 rows
Abbreviations
- Ch = chain
- Sc = single crochet
- Dc = double crochet
- Hdc = half double crochet
Pattern Notes
- Start at bottom of messy bun and work your way up.

Crochet With Mistie! ~ Everyday Kisses Messy Bun
MESSY BUN INSTRUCTIONS
Round 1: Chain 63; join with a slip stitch to first chain. (63 sts)
Round 2: Chain 1, hdc in first chain, hdc in each chain around; join with a slip stitch to top of first hdc. (63 sts)
Round 3: Chain 1, work (1sc, 2dc) in the same stitch as join, * skip the next 2 stitches, (sc, 2dc) in the next stitch, * repeat from * to * around; slip stitch in the first sc. (63 sts)
Round 4: Chain 2, 2 dc in same stitch as join, * skip next 2 stitches, (sc, 2 dc) in next stitch, * repeat from * to * around; slip stitch in top of chain 2. (63 sts)
Round 5-12: Repeat Rounds 3 & 4 four more times
Round 13: Repeat Round 3 once more
Round 14: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch as join, hdc in the next 2 stitches, * hdc decrease over the next two stitches, hdc in the next 3 stitches, * repeat from * to * around, ending with hdc in last three stitches; join with a slip stitch to top of hdc. (51 sts)
Round 15: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch as join, hdc in the next 1 stitches, * hdc decrease over the next two stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, * repeat from * to * around, ending with hdc in last three stitches; join with a slip stitch in top of hdc. (39 sts)
Round 16: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch as join, hdc in the next 1 stitches, * hdc decrease over the next two stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, * repeat from * to * around, ending with hdc in last three stitches; join with a slip stitch in top of hdc. (30 sts)
Round 17: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch as join, hdc in the next 1 stitches, * hdc decrease over the next two stitches, hdc in the next 2 stitches, * repeat from * to * around, ending with hdc decrease in last two stitches; join with a slip stitch to first stitch. (23 sts)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
