Meet Celina of Simply Collectible Crochet
I love visiting Simply Collectible Crochet and seeing what she’s been up to lately. Celina, the owner, is very talented, kind, honest, knowledgeable, a dear friend, and I enjoy getting to chat with her. She is willing to share her knowledge with others, shares other crochet designer’s projects, help out when she can, and much more.
- Tell me a little something about your personal life ~ kids, family, pets, etc.
My family of five includes my husband, my son, me, plus two silly cats – Murray and Mimi. We love all things silly and we reside in Houston, Texas.
- How long have you been crocheting?
Honestly, I got serious about learning to crochet in 2010. As a child, I had learned how to use a hook, but was never really interested enough to complete a project or even select one for that matter. Needless to say, I’m glad I did.
- How long have you been blogging? Why did you start blogging?
This is a little difficult for me to answer because I have had this website since 2010, but I planned on opening an online store to assist with sales in conjunction with Etsy. My site has been through several different face lifts and it just seemed part of the natural progression to start blogging. I didn’t know I was going to blog full time until Kim Guzman and I started chatting about it. I have to admit, it does seem very natural for me to have moved in this direction as I still create new patterns and sell product as well. They balance each other out.
- What are your favorite items to make?
I can’t really say that I have a favorite Item, style, or category to design or make. Usually, it comes down to making items for my family or for myself and I just go from there. It can be anything from silly or fun amigurumi to hats or blankets. I do prefer to work different types so I can have challenging pieces and ones I can just zone out on.

- What is your favorite thing about crocheting and or blogging?
If I had to name one thing that is my favorite about crocheting or blogging it’s probably the fact that to me it’s like working puzzles. Some people may choose crossword or Sudoku, but I definitely prefer a larger puzzle. There’s always something to challenge me in this business whether it be working with new-to-me stitch combinations or learning to code my site.
- What are your favorite yarns (brands or types) to work with?
This is probably the most difficult question to answer because it depends on the project and my inspiration that day. Lately, I’ve been on a Red Heart Boutique kick.
- Where do you get your inspiration from?
Inspiration can come from anywhere, but I’d like to think that a lot of my inspiration comes from looking at things in nature- biology even, if you will. One of my designs- Penelope’s Flirty Shawl- was inspired by the intricacy I saw in a small bush when we were going for a walk. It was the only bush in the area that did not have a single leaf on it and the structure was just extraordinary to me as the sun shone from behind.
- What is your favorite item on your blog at the moment?
Is this a trick question? Ha. This is a little like asking a mother which child is her favorite. Does it not depend on the day of the week or the time of day? (There is always a favorite.)
- What would be the one piece of advice you would give to a person setting up their own blog?
Slow and steady wins the race. Don’t burn out. Don’t go too fast. Don’t try to compete. Your slow and steady is not the next person’s slow and steady. Your mental health and your family is more important.
- How do fellow bloggers get their patterns featured on your sites?
If someone was interested in sharing their patterns with my audience for extra exposure or as an introduction into the blogging world, all they need to do is send me message to discuss the details.
