Meet Erangi of Crochet For You
One of my favorite blogs is Crochet for You. Erangi, the owner, is incredibly talented and friendly. One day I asked Erangi if she could send me her logo, because I wanted to put her info in my newsletter. She kindly told me yes and sent it right away. Since then Erangi and I have had a chance to get to know one another.
I love taking a look around on Erangi’s blog. She is super talented and shares lots of free patterns from other bloggers.
I recently asked Erangi to be a featured guest on American Crochet and she happily accepted.
Tell me a little something about your personal life ~ kids, family, pets, etc.
First of all I want to thank my friend, Mistie Bush for featuring me.
First of all I want to thank my friend, Mistie Bush for featuring me. I live in a small but beautiful island called Sri Lanka with my mom, dad, and brother.
How long have you been crocheting?
My story is a little bit different. When I was 9 years old, my life was turned upside down with my illness. I’ve been disabled since then and have had to spend my life in a wheelchair. It was hard for me at first. I wanted to do something, spend my time without being bored. I wanted to be busy with something – to avoid my stress and you know how it feels. So I started to crochet with my illness. I was so lucky because my aunt taught me how to crochet and I enjoyed every moment with her. I’m left handed and my aunt is right handed. Imagine how we did this together. My first projects were a little dress and little hats for my dolls. I still have them all and the little pieces take me back to the past when I see them.
How long have you been blogging? Why did you start blogging?
Hhmm… Sometime it’s hard to answer why I started blogging. I have been crocheting since I was 9 years old and it’s turned into my hobby within the last few years. I started blogging in Sep 2013, I just wanted to share my crochet patterns with everyone and learn new things. My blog is “Crochet For You”. The name of my blog is put together by my brother and I love it. I have no big hopes at first when I began to blogging. More than one year has passed now, but, I like to call myself as I’m a new blogger because I’m still learning. Last year I worked hard, learned lots and enjoyed myself while making friendship with lovely people like you. My goals for this year are to share more patterns, get more traffic, and continue it for successful, making a better blog for you and me.
What are your favorite yarns (brands or types) to work with?
I love to work with every type of yarn that matches with the designs I work with.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I just want to make pretty things and I love nature, birds, flowers, and all the colors. There is no winter in my country, the sun is up every day here, and we have fine weather, so I am mostly crocheting lace patterns for my clothes designs. But I don’t like to stick to one framework – I try everything I see. First time in my life I made fingerless gloves I named them Brick Wall Crochet Fingerless Gloves. I made these because I knew that I have more visitors from the USA and other countries and they are very popular. I hope to crochet more beautiful and unique patterns in the future with my inspirations.
What would be the one piece of advice you would give to a person setting up their own blog?
You have to be patient if you are just getting started blogging. We have to work hard. It will take some time but don’t give up when failing, continue it, enjoying it, and love your work.
How do fellow bloggers get their patterns featured on your sites?
Well, I’m doing 10 free crochet pattern round-ups two times each month. If you have free crochet patterns on your blog or Ravelry. I can add the patterns in my future round-ups occasionally with your permission if they fit with the theme I select. You can contact me from my blog and Ravelry (Erangiudeshika) as well. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.
