Meet Katherine of KatiDCreations
I enjoy visiting KatiDCreations and seeing what she’s been up to lately. Katherine, the owner, is extremely talented, kind, honest, knowledgeable, a great friend, and I enjoy chatting with her. She is willing to share her knowledge with others, shares other crochet designer’s projects, help out when she has the time, and much more.
Tell me a little something about your personal life ~ kids, family, pets, etc.
I have a wonderful Mr. who is very supportive as I am currently taking classes to get my HVAC degree….figured after working in the industry for 10+ years it was time. Two beautiful active children who keep me on my toes. The family dog (Ruger), cat (Eads), a coop full of chickens and a pond stocked with catfish to keep us fully entertained when we get ‘bored’.
How long have you been crocheting?
I started crocheting when I was 14 years old so close to 20 years ago!
How long have you been blogging? Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging June of 2014. I started blogging as it was a way for me to have a reason to crochet more often. Keeping up with 2 little ones has made it challenging but I would not change any of it.
What is your favorite thing about crocheting and/or blogging?
My favorite thing about crocheting is watching the yarn in my hands transform from a ball into something that I have only imagined. The process of ‘frogging’ the rows until I get it just right is such a peaceful process for me. It is my Zen.
What are your favorite yarns (brands or types to work with?
I love working with Loops and Thread. They have such a large range of weights available from fingerling to bulky, and their color selection is pretty amazing also!
What are your favorite items to make?
That moment when a new design has begun to take shape in my mind, when I sit down with the hook and yarn and start working the stitches. Then in that moment am I making my favorite item.
What is your favorite item on your blog at the moment?
I can’t say that I have a favorite items to make but my favorite item so far is my ‘Marian’s Riding Hood’
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Quite often I get my inspiration from other designs I see. When I see a finished shape I love I will often take that as my inspiration and then completely change up the stitches I use so it is my very own creations.
What would be the one piece of advice you would give to a person setting up their own blog?
Don’t force it. When you force it you will start to dislike doing it. If I don’t feel like crocheting then I don’t. When I force myself to crochet I often make silly mistakes.
