Meet Tanya of Hodge Podge Crochet
I enjoying stopping by Hodge Podge Crochet and checking out her site and seeing what she’s been up to lately. Tanya, the owner, is very talented, full of information, nice, and always a joy to talk too. She is helpful, always willing to share her knowledge with others, share other crochet designer’s projects, and much more.
Tell me a little something about your personal life ~ kids, family, pets, etc.
I’ve been married for 17 years and my husband and I have 5 children. We are a homeschooling family and this is the first (and last) year all 5 will be in school at the same time.
We recently adopted an all-black kitty that none of us can agree on a name for so she literally has (and responds to) seven different names!
How long have you been crocheting?
I’ve been crocheting since I was a child but I was more of a free form crocheter and didn’t have any idea what I was doing. I used to design clothing for my Barbie dolls and made the occasional snowman and ami doll.
I only got serious about learning to crochet properly in 2010. My first projects were terrible but I stuck with them and learned all about tension and gauge and combined my early knowledge of shaping to the practical knowledge of stitch multiples and math to eventually begin designing.
How long have you been blogging? Why did you start blogging?
My blog officially opened its doors in January, 2012 in WordPress. I’ve recently moved on to a website that integrates both my business and my blog and am slowly moving content from the original blog to the website.
What is your favorite thing about crocheting and/or blogging?
My favorite thing about both crocheting and blogging is getting new ideas out into the world! I love when readers or fans tell me that they’ve used my ideas and enjoy them!
What are your favorite items to make?
I love making things that use techniques or stitches that are brand new to me. I’ve always enjoyed the process of learning about fresh and different things to do with yarn.
What are your favorite yarns (brands or types to work with?
I’m game to work with any yarn but my favorites have been the Red Heart Boutique types like Unforgettable or Treasure. I also have really loved yarns like Loops & Threads Velveteen and Impeccable.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My kids inspire me! The designs I come up with are usually at their request.
What is your favorite item on your blog at the moment?
Right now, my favorite blog post is How To Crochet Eyes For Your Amigurumi.
What would be the one piece of advice you would give to a person setting up their own blog?
Love to write!! If you don’t enjoy writing your whole blog will suffer for it because your readers can tell when your heart isn’t into it.
How do fellow bloggers get their patterns featured on your sites?
Right now that process is handled though my community group. At least twice a year (usually around a holiday) I will post a thread looking for submissions that fit the theme and then those patterns get featured in a roundup!
