Meet Amy of The Stitchin Mommy
I enjoy stopping by The Stitchin Mommy’s blog. Amy, the owner, is amazingly talented and a wonderful friend of mine. I absolutely love how she is always willing to help out when needed, share her knowledge with others, and share other crochet designer’s projects.
Tell me a little something about your personal life ~ kids, family, pets, etc.
I am a stay at home mom with the sweetest little girl who is almost 4 years old and a little boy on the way. My husband and I have been married for 5 years but have been together for 12. We live in New York and absolutely love it!
How long have you been crocheting?
I’ve been crocheting for almost 6 years.
How long have you been blogging? Why did you start blogging?
I’ve been blogging for 3 years. I decided to start my blog to promote the finished items that I sold in my Etsy shop. I slowly started designing and posting the free ones on my blog with other crafts and recipes.
What is your favorite thing about crocheting and/or blogging?
It makes me so happy to see people create things from my patterns. It is mush a satisfying feeling to know that my pattern was able to help someone create something.
What are your favorite items to make?
I love to make blankets. I make blankets for friends and family members who are expecting and it brings me so much joy to see how much they appreciate my work.
What are your favorite yarns (brands or types to work with?
I love all kinds of yarn. The yarn that I use the most has to be Lily Sugar’n Cream but I LOVE working with nicer yarns such as Cascade and any kind of Merino yarn.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am mostly inspired by my daughter and by the things around me.
What is your favorite item on your blog at the moment?
Right now I have a Spa Day series that will include 4 patterns. I think those are my favorite so far.
What would be the one piece of advice you would give to a person setting up their own blog?
I would have to say, research other blogs first before starting your own to make sure you aren’t duplicating what someone else has done. The last thing you want is a blog name that is very similar to another blog that is already established. I would also say that you should try to familiarize yourself with the “rules” and etiquette that comes along with blogging. There are many things that are on the list of do’s and don’ts that I wish I had available to me when I started blogging.
How do fellow bloggers get their patterns featured on your sites?
I share pattern links for projects that I like or if I am compiling a roundup of a specific theme, I will those as well.
