Shells Up the Trellis Cozy

Here is a great cozy for a cold cup. It fits the Starbuck’s Grande (16 oz) cup. It is quick and easy to make using Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn, Furls Odyssey H hook, and basic crochet stitches. Make several in different colors for gifts or yourself. This would make a great end of school gift for a teacher.
Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Yarn, #4, 12 oz/340 g/608 yds/556 m, (uses small amount approximately 50 to 75 yds) Potpourri Ombre
Hook: Furls Odyssey H
Laying flat Base diameter 3 inches, Height 4 ½ inches base to top of shell, Width 4 inches
Not important for this project
BLO = back loop only
Ch/chs = chain/chains
Dc = double crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Rnd/Rnds = round/rounds
Sc = single crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
Sp/sps = space/spaces
St/sts = stitch/stitches
Shell – In space indicated work (4 dc, ch 2, dc) shell made
Ch 1 at beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch
Rnd 4 is worked BLO
This pattern is worked in the rnd by joining with a sl st. Rnds 5 – 10 is also turned at the end of each rnd.
Ch 3, join with sl st in first ch to form circle
Rnd 1: ch 1, 8 hdc in circle, join with sl st in first hdc (8 hdc)
Rnd 2: ch 1 2 hdc in same st as join and each st around; join with sl st in first hdc (16 hdc)
Rnd 3: ch 1,hdc in same st as join, * 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st * repeat from * to * around; join with sl st in first hdc (24 hdc)
Rnd 4: BLO ch 1, hdc in same st as join and each st around; join with sl st in top of first hdc (24 BLO hdc)
Rnd 5: ch 1, ch 3 in same st as ch 1, dc next st, * sk next st, shell next st, sk 3 sts, dc next 3 sts *, repeat from * to * around ending with dc in last st, join with sl st in top of ch 3 (3 shells, 3 sets of dcs)
Rnd 6: ch 1 turn, ch 3 in same st as ch 1, dc next st, * sk next st, shell next st, sk 3 sts, dc next 3 sts *, repeat from * to * around ending with dc in last st, join with sl st in top of ch 3 (3 shells, 3 sets of dcs)
Rnds 7 – 10: Repeat Rnd 6
Fasten off weave in ends
