I designed this pattern December 2013 and for some reason or the other it just fell into cyber space. I created these mitts for a friend of mine. They are fun and sure to brighten up anyone’s day. I hope you enjoy it!!
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft #4 Medium (6 ozs., 170.1 g, 315 yds., 288 m)
Small amount Lemonade, Watermelon, Royal Blue, White
Hook: H (5.0 mm)
4 ¼ inch black buttons for eyes
Small amount pink Embroidery Floss for Mouth and black for nose and eye lashes
Height before cuff folded 11 inches, after folded 9 ½ inches width 4 ½ inches above thumb
BLO = back loop only
Ch/chs = chain/chains
Dc = double crochet
DCBL = double crochet back loop
DCFL = double crochet front loop
Hdc = half double crochet
Sc = single crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
Sp/sps = space/spaces
St/sts = stitch/stitches
Cuff using Watermelon
Row 1: Ch 25, sl st together
Row 2: Ch 1 sc in each st around, join
Row 3: Ch2, hdc in each st around
Round 4: Ch 2 dcbl, dcfl around, join
Round 5-10: repeat round 4
~cuff should measure 3″; 6″ circumference
Now using white~ tie on
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around (25 sc)
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join (25 hdc)
Round 3: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join (25 hdc)
Round 4: Ch 2, hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st Repeat around (29 hdc)
Round 5-7: hdc in each st around (29hdc)
Round 8: Left hand Ch 2, hdc in first 6 sts, sk the next 7 sts, sl st in the next st, hdc in same st, hdc in remaining sts; join (22 hdc)
Round 8: Right Hand 1 hdc in first 20 sts, skip last 7 sts. Sl st in next st of next row.
Hat using Royal Blue
Round 9-14: Ch 2, hdc around
Round 15: Ch 2, hdc in first 2 sts, hdc decrease in next 2 sts, Repeat around, join (17 hdc)
Round 16-17: Ch 2, hdc in each st around (17 hdc)
Round 18: Ch 2, hdc in first 2 sts, hdc decrease in next 2 sts, Repeat around (13 hdc)
Round 19: Ch 2, hdc around, join (13 hdc)
Fasten off. Turn in side out and sew remaining sts together. Weave in ends.
Thumbs with white
With the thumb opening on the left hand side of your work, join the yarn with a slip stitch, to the stitch just to the left of the palm of the mitt.
Round 1: 1 hdc in same st as ss, hdc around ss to join ch 2 (8 hdc)
Round 2: hdc in next st and around join ch 2 (7 hdc)
Round 3: hdc in next st and around join, ch 2 (6 hdc)
Round 4: hdc in next st and around join, (5 hdc) fasten off leave a tail for sewing. Turn mitt inside out and weave the ends of the yarn through both loops of the last round tie off and weave loose ends.
With right side back of mitt facing
Sew black buttons about 1 inch from edges for eyes on each mitt. With black floss make eye lashes and a French knot for the nose.
With pink embroidery floss use an overlap running stitch for the mouth.
