Smokey Summer Top ~ Child Medium

The Smokey Summer Top (Childs’s Medium 6-8), is designed to be worn over a tank top or swim suit on these warm summer days. The Smokey Summer top can be made using different types and weights of yarn. It is made in the round and then the straps attached.
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Party #4 worsted weight, 99% Acrylic, 1% polyester, 3 0z/164 yds/85 g/150 m Platinum Sparkle 2 Skeins
Hook: Brittany J
Laying flat Length top band to bottom (without straps) 16 inches, width top band 15 inches
Not important for this project
Ch/chs = chain/chains
Hdc = half double crochet
Sc = single crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
Sp/sps = space/spaces
St/sts = stitch/stitches
Trc = treble/triple crochet
The Smokey Summer Top is made in the round and then the straps attached.
Ch 1 at beginning of Rnd does not count as a stitch
Ch 2 on straps counts as 1st hdc on next row
Ch 100 ~ BEING CAREFUL not to twist chain, join with sl st to first ch to form circle,
Rnd 1: ch 1, hdc in same ch and each ch around; join with sl st in top of 1st hdc, (100 hdc)
Rnd 2 -3: Repeat Rnd 1
Rnd 4: ch 1, tr same st as ch 1, ch 4, sk 4,* tr in next st, ch 4, sk 4 *, repeat from * to * around; join with sl st in top of 1st trc (20 trc, 20 ch 4 sps)
Rnd 5 – 15: Repeat Rnd 4
Rnd 16: ch 1, hdc in same st as ch 1, 4 hdc in ch 4 sp, * hdc in next tr, 4 hdc in ch 4 sp *, repeat from * to * around; join with sl st to top of 1st hdc (100 hdc)
Rnd 17: ch 1, hdc in same st as ch 1 and each st around; join with sl st to top of 1st hdc, (100 hdc)
Rnd 18 – 19: Repeat Rnd 17
Fasten off and weave in ends
Straps (Make 2) Worked in Rows
Laying top flat, counting from beginning join over 14 sts and place st marker in that st, sk 5 sts place st marker in next st, sk 10 sts place st marker in next st, sk 5 sts, place st marker in next st, sk 28 sts place st marker in that st, sk 5 sts, place st marker in next st, sk 10 sts, place st marker in next st, sk 5 sts place st marker in next st
Straps will be worked in the 5 skipped stitches between markers.
Attach yarn in first of 5 sk sts,
Row 1: ch 1, hdc in same st as ch 1, hdc in next 4 sts; ch 2 turn (5 hdc)
Row 2: hdc in next 4 sts; ch 2 turn (5 hdc)
Rows 3 – 24: Repeat Row 2 (for shorter or longer straps adjust here)
Sl st into the 5 sts between markers on back side of top
Fasten off and weave in ends
Repeat Rows 1 through 24 for second strap
