Softee Chunky Cowl
By Gracie Bush
I recently ran across the Sand stitch while getting the CWU Fall Poncho on The Stitchin’ Mommy’s site. I really liked the stitch and decided to make a cowl using some of my yarn stash.
Yarn: Bernat Softee Chunky – Super Bulky #6
Length: 14” Width: 5 ½” Laying Flat
Sc = Single Crochet
Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
FO = Fasten Off
Rep = Repeat
Sl St = Slip Stitch
Sp/Sps = Space/ Spaces
St/Sts = Stitch/ Stitches
Here is a very detailed tutorial on how to work the Sand stitch. The Softee Chunky Cowl is worked a little different from the tutorial because it’s worked in the round.
Ch 75, join. Be careful to not twist the chain
Rnd 1: Ch2, sk next st, sc in next st, * ch1, sk next st, sc in next st * , repeat from * to * around; join with a sl st in 1st ch.
Rnd 2: Ch1, sc in first ch1 sp, ch1, sk the first sc, * sc into the next ch1 sp, ch1, sk the next sc * repeat from * to * around; join with sl st in top of ch1.
Repeat Rnd 2 until you have reached desired height.
Happy Hooking and Enjoy!
