Rudolph The Reindeer ~ Free Crochet Pattern

A fun easy to make in just less than 2 hours the cute reindeer with the red nose! Can be made a dishcloth, washcloth or a hot-pad!

RUDOLPH THE REINDEER
Skill Level: Easy
Materials:
- Medium worsted yarn (No 4) (I used Elle Charity Double Knit Pullskein)
- Approx 25 – 50 grams of Brown
- Small amounts of medium worsted yarn in white; red and beige
- Hooks 5, 50 mm
- Yarn Needle
Abbreviations:
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
SC2tog – single crochet two together
Gauge: Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect – if making more than one for an afghan or blanket; crocheting the same tension throughout will ensure squares are approx the same size.
Finished Size:
Approx 9 x 9 inches when blocked
PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS
With Brown yarn CH 26
ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; then work 1 SC into each CH until end (25 SC); TURN
ROW 2: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); then work 1 HDC into each ST until end (25 HDC); TURN
ROW 3: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC); Note – change to white on the last SC worked; TURN
ROW 4/6/8/10/12/14/16/18: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); then work 1 HDC into each ST until end (25 HDC); TURN
Note – change to blue on the last SC worked on Row 18;
ROW 5/7/9/11/13/15/17: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC); TURN
ROW 19/21/23/25: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC); TURN
ROW 20/22/24: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); then work 1 HDC into each ST until end (25 HDC); TURN
ROW 26: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC). Fasten off and weave in ends.
Border:
With Brown yarn join into any corner and evenly work SC sts all around.
NOSE:
With Red yarn make a magic circle
RND 1: DO NOT SL ST into first SC – then continue working the round –you might want to use a stitch marker to help mark the start of your round; Work 6 SC into ring.
RND 2: Work 2 SC into each ST all around (12 SC)
RND 3: *Work 2 SC into next SC, then work 1 SC into next ST. Repeat from * all around (18 SC)
RND 4: *Work 2 SC into next SC, then work 1 SC into next 2 STS. Repeat from * all around (24 SC);
RND 5: *Work 2 SC into next SC, then work 1 SC into next 3 STS. Repeat from * all around (30 SC);
RND 6: Work into back-loops only; work 1 SC into each ST – 30 SC
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
EYES:
With White yarn make a magic circle
Repeat instructions for nose for RND 1 to RND 3 then;
SL ST all around. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
EYE LIDS:
CH 4
Work 5 DC into 4th Ch (6 DC); TURN
ROW 2: CH 3; work 1 DC into same ST; then work 2 DC into each ST until end of row (12 DC); TURN
ROW 3: CH1; work 2 SC into first ST; then work 1 SC into next.
*Work 2 SC into next ST; then work 1 SC into next ST. Repeat from until end of row (18 SC).
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
ANTLERS:
CH 22
Work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; work 1 DC into next 8 CH;
CH 10; work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; then work 1 DC into next 6 CH;
Work 2 DC over next DC; work 1 DC into remaining CH.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
