How I Learned to Spin
On July 18, 2015 I went to a “Fiber Festival” at the Berry Center in Houston, Texas. There was a lot of Crafters/Designers with their booths and materials such: as fiber, yarn, etc. We got three booths in The Crochet Dude was supposed to be there but something happened and he wasn’t able to attend. The third booth was Yarnorama, the owner and employee was demonstrating Drop Spindles. They were very nice and willing to show me how to use the Drop Spindles. I sat there for two hours and learned how to spin.
I have spun five hanks of yarn working on a sixth hank. The colors are: Field of Flowers, Pinkalicious (2 hanks), Under the Sea, Greenwich Village (2 hanks). I am practicing for a Scholarship for Ply Away Magazine. I have to spin 50 yards of fiber, get two references, and write a 1000+ word essay. The winner of the scholarship receives four nights stay at a hotel, plus spinning classes and more. The winner can include this on their college application.
I participated in the October, 2015 Spinzella as a Rouge Spinner. For this event I spun 509.25 yards.
