Why Mercerized Cotton Thread?
This pattern calls for #10 100% Mercerized Egyptian Cotton thread — and it makes all the difference.
Mercerized cotton is treated to give the thread a smooth, lustrous finish that catches light beautifully — perfect for a snowflake that is meant to sparkle on a tree. It also has excellent stitch definition, meaning every delicate detail of the pattern shows up crisp and clear. And because it is 100% cotton, it blocks beautifully — essential for achieving that perfectly flat, symmetrical snowflake shape. Substituting with a different fiber type or thread weight will affect the finished size, drape, and appearance of the ornament.
