Yarn
- Bernat Baby’s Breath #6 (super Bulky), 100% Acrylic, Color used is Baby Powder, used 3 skeins, approximately 290 yds for cocoon and approximately 30 yds for beanie. Each skein is 3.5 ozs/100 g/108 yds/90 m.
Hook and Notions
- Size Hook: J (6.0mm) for beanie and K (6.5 mm) for cocoon
Measurement
- Cocoon Laying flat: width 14 inches, height 20 inches,
- Beanie Laying flat: width 6 inches, height top of crown to brim 5 ½ inches, circumference 12 inches
Gauge
- Beanie with J hook 5 hdc & 4 rounds = 2 inches
- Cocoon with K hook 4 hdc & 3 rounds = 2 inches
Abbreviations
- BLO = back loop only
- Hdc = half double crochet
- Sc = single crochet
Pattern Notes
- Chain 1 at beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch throughout pattern.
- Cocoon and Beanie are worked in the round with different size hooks.
- Corners are worked as (1hdc, ch 1, hdc) in same st or ch 1 space
- Rounds 2 – 5 increase 8 stitches each round
Baby Cocoon Pattern Instructions
With K hook Chain 15
Round 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook and across, work 3 sc in beginning chain. Working up back side of chain sc in each chain, sc in same chain as 1st sc; join with slip stitch to top of 1st sc. (30 sc)
Round 2: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch, work corner in next stitch, hdc in each stitch across to end, work corner in next stitch, hdc next stitch, work corner in next stitch, hdc in each stitch to end, work corner in last stitch; join with slip stitch in top of 1st hdc. (38 hdc, 4 ch 1 spaces)
Round 3: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch, hdc in each stitch to chain 1 space, work corner in chain 1 space, hdc in each stitch across to next chain 1 space, work corner in chain 1 space, hdc in each stitch to chain 1 space, work corner in chain 1 space, hdc in each stitch to next chain 1 space, work corner in last chain 1 space, hdc each stitch to end; join with slip stitch in top of 1st hdc. (46 hdc, 4 ch 1 spaces)
Rounds 4-5: Repeat Round 3 (54 hdc for round 4 and 62 for round 5)
Round 6 (working in BLO): Chain 1, hdc in same stitch and each stitch and chain around; join with slip stitch to top of 1st hdc. (66 hdc)
Rounds 7: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch as join and each stitch around; join with slip stitch to top of first hdc (66 hdc)
Rounds 8-30: Repeat Round 7 (66 hdc)
Fasten off and attach yarn at center front of cocoon
Row 1: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch and in each stitch round. Turn (66 hdc)
Rows 2-5: Repeat Row 1 (66 hdc)
Do not fasten off. Turn and work sc in end of each row of neck opening;
join with slip stitch to top of hdc on other side.
Fasten off and weave in ends
Easy Baby Beanie Pattern Instructions
Working with a J hook,
Round 1: Chain 2, work 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook; join top of 1st hdc (6 hdc)
Round 2: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), work 2 hdc in same stitch as ch 1 and each stitch around; join top of 1st hdc, (12 hdc)
Round 3: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch, work 2 hdc in next stitch,
* hdc in next stitch, work 2 hdc in next stitch, * repeat from * to * around; join with slip stitch in top of 1st hdc. (18 hdc)
Round 4: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch, hdc in next stitch, work 2 hdc in next stitch, * hdc in next 2 stitches, work 2 hdc in next stitch, * repeat from * to * around; join with slip stitch in top of 1st hdc. (24 hdc)
Round 5: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches, work 2 hdc in next stitch, * hdc in next 3 stitches, work 2 hdc in next stitch, * repeat from * to * around; join with slip stitch in top of 1st hdc. (30 hdc)
Circumference is 5 inches after round 5
Round 6 (working in BLO): Chain 1, hdc in same stitch and in each stitch round; join with slip stitch to top of 1st hdc. (30 hdc)
Round 7: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch and in each stitch around; join with slip stitch to top of 1st hdc, (30 hdc)
Rounds 8 -11: Repeat Round 7 (30 hdc)
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
