As part of the Riverwood Square CAL, this block introduces a fresh approach to stitch texture. 📌 Stitch Placement & Textured Elements
One of the highlights of the Fairchild Square is its subtle play with texture. The use of 3rd loop stitches creates a clean, defined look, while front and back loop stitches bring contrast and movement to the design. This variation gives the square a modern aesthetic, making it a standout piece whether used in blankets, pillows, or other projects.
The Fairchild Square also reinforces stitch control and placement, helping crocheters refine their technique while keeping the process enjoyable. The transition between raised and recessed stitches adds depth without overwhelming the pattern, making it an ideal block for both experienced crocheters and those looking to expand their skills.

Stitch Explanation
- Sc 3rd Loop: With the front of the stitch facing you, look at the top of the stitch, and find the sideways “V”. Next, bend the stitch to look at the back, and you should see another “V”. You’ll be working into the back loop of that “V”, this is called the 3rd loop. When working in across, like you are in the square the 3rd loop should be facing you.
- BLO: Work all stitches in the back loop for the specified round.
Pattern Notes
- Ch 1 at beginning of the round does not count as a stitch.
- 1st Corner – work (3dc, ch 2, 3 dc)
- 2nd Corner – work (2dc, ch 2, 2dc)
