The colors this blanket uses makes me think of Fall and I am in love with the texture, they put a smile on my face and makes my heart happy. Caron Simply Soft has the perfect hues for this season, however you can use whatever colors of yarn you would like to crochet this easy blanket pattern with. I know that whatever you end up choosing for this afghan will give your blanket an individual style that is uniquely yours!

The stitches in this throw blanket pattern are simple to crochet. Some of my free crochet blanket patterns even have tutorials on my YouTube Channel so head over there if you need help.

If this is your first time stitching one of my awesome and fun filled crochet-alongs, WELCOME TO THE FAMILY! Grab your supplies–if you haven’t already (I’ve shared them below just in case you need a refresher)), your favorite snack and beverage, get comfy and start stitching up your blanket with me. How to Crochet a Throw Blanket

If you want to crochet a throw blanket here’s what you’ll need to know:

REQUIREMENTS

Level of Difficulty

  • Advanced Beginner

Yarn

  • #4 worsted weight Caron Simply Soft in Pumpkin, and Bone.
  • Want different colors? Use whatever your heart desires! You can use multiple colors, a solid color or a gradient of sorts. The only requirement is that your colors make you happy.
  • Want to make this with a different weight of yarn? You can do that too. Just change your hook to the recommended hook size on the yarn’s label. If you decide to do this the weight of the yarn will determine how defined your stitches are.

Hooks and Notions

  • Hooks: I (5.5mm), scissors, tape measure and blunt yarn needle

Measurement

  • 50 inches across (Approximately)

Gauge

  • Using Caron Simply Soft yarn: 14 hdc = 4-inches (beginning of blanket)

Abbreviations – US Terminology

  • Ch/chs = chain/chains
  • Sc = single crochet
  • Hdc = half double crochet
  • St(s) = stitch(s)
  • Dc = double crochet

Pattern Notes

  • THESE PATTERNS WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE FOR FREE FOR THE DURATION OF THE CROCHET ALONG. Once completed, patterns will be removed and only be available in my shops!
  • Chain 1 at beginning of row does NOT count as a stitch.
  • I used 2 colors of #4 worsted weight Caron Simply Soft yarn. You do not have to use 2 colors. You can use as few or as many colors as your heart desires. The only requirement is that your colors make you happy.
  • You may use any size yarn and the recommended hook size. However, the weight of the yarn will dictate how defined your stitches are.
  • If your yarn suggests using an I hook, then that’s what you will use–UNLESS you crochet too tight or too loose. Then you will want to adjust your hook size accordingly.
  • Do you have tight tension? Try this tip: Because I am a tight crocheter I used the J (6mm) crochet hook to chain with, so the chain isn’t too tight. This will also keep it from buckling. If you crochet loosely then you really shouldn’t have to go up a hook size when chaining. Rule of thumb: always check your gauge.

Special Stitches

  • Hdc in 3rd Loop = With the front of the stitch facing you, look at the top of the stitch, and find the sideways “V”. Next, bend the stitch to look at the back, and you should see another “V”. You’ll be working into the back loop of that “V”, this is called the 3rd loop. When working in across, like you are in the square the 3rd loop should be facing you.

I would love to see your projects in my Facebook Group and/or on Instagram!
