Judy Circle in A Square is the 8th Square in the Squaring The Circle CAL 2018! Unlike her sisters, Judy is a no fuss kinda gal. This square can also be used for other projects and will always be available. Enjoy!

Abbreviations
Ch/chs = chain/chains
Dc = double crochet
FPdc = front post double crochet
BPdc = back post double crochet
Sp = space
dctog = double crochet together

Special Stitches
BPDC – back post double crochet
Step 1: yarn over on hook.
Step 2: Insert hook into hole next to the post of the next stitch, on the “hook side” from back to front
Step 3: Bring the hook back to the back of the fabric around the post, to the hole farther from the hook.
Step 4: yarn over and draw through a loop, bringing it through both sides of the fabric. (3 loops on hook)
Step 5: yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook. (2 loops remaining on hook)
Step 6: yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook.

FPDC – front post double crochet
Insert your hook into the front of your work, behind the indicated stitch, and then through your work such that your hook is now at the front of your work again. Pull through final 2 loops on your hook.

INSTRUCTIONS

Working With A

Ch 4, slip stitch to for a ring
Round 1: Chain 4, * dc, ch 1,
* repeat around 11 more times;
join with a slip stitch into 3rd chain of chain 3. (12 dc, 12 ch 1 spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join B with a Slip Stitch into any Dc

Round 2: * FPdc around previous dc,
chain 2, * repeat from * to * around;
join with a slip stitch in 1st FPdc. (12 Fpdc, 12 ch 2 sp)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join C with a slip stitch in any chain 2 space

Round 3: Chain 1 (See Notes),
* work 3 dc in chain 2 space, skip FPdc, chain 1, *
repeat from * to * around;
join with a slip stitch into top of 1st dc. (36 dc, 12 ch 1 sp)

Join A with a slip stitch in any BLO of 1st dc in 3 dc group

Round 4: (Working in BLO) Chain 1 (See Notes),
* hdc in next 3 dc, FPtr over FPdc of RND 2, *
repeat from * to * around;
join with a slip stitch in 1st hdc. (36 hdc, 12 FPtr)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Squaring

Join B with a slip stitch into any FPtr

Round 5: Chain 3 (Counts as DC), work (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into same stitch as join (FIRST Corner),
* chain 3, sc into next FPtr, chain 3,
sc into next FPtr, chain 3, work Corner, *
repeat from * to *;
join with slip stitch into 3rd chain of chain 4. (8 sc, 12 Chain 3 sps, 4 Corners)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join C with a slip stitch in any Corner Chain 3 space

Round 6: Chain 3,
work (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into same chain 3 corner space as join,
* dc in next 3 dc, work (3 dc in chain 3 space, dc in sc) twice,
work 3 dc in next chain 3 space, dc in next 3 dc, *
repeat from * to * around 3 more times;
join with a slip stitch into 3rd chain of chain 3. (4 corners, 21 dc on each side)

Join A with a slip stitch in any Corner Chain 2 space

Round 7: Chain 1 (See Notes),
work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into same corner space,
FPdc around each of the next 21 stitches until next corner,
* work corner into next corner,
FPdc in each of the next 21 stitches until next corner,
repeat from * 2 more times;
join with a slip stitch into 1st dc. (21 FPdc on each side = 84 FPdc & 4 Corners)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join B in any Chain 2 corner space

Round 8: Chain 1 (doesn’t count),
* work corner (See Notes), BPdc around each dc across, *
repeat from * to * 3 more times;
join with a slip stitch in 1st dc. (16 dc, 25 BPdc = 100 BPdc, 4 ch 2 spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join A in any Chain 2 corner space

Round 9: Chain 1 (doesn’t count),
* work 3 dc in the corner chain 2 space,
BPdc around each BPdc and dc, *
repeat from * around;
join with a slip stitch in in top of 1st dc. (29 BPdc, 12 dc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

  1. Love these squares! In round 6 of this one, there is no instruction to repeat the corner after the initial corner. seems pretty self explanatory to me , but thought I would mention it just in case.
