How to Crochet A Gauge Swatch
Creating a gauge swatch helps ensure that your project will turn out with the intended size and fit. It’s also a great way to get comfortable with the stitches used in this pattern, allowing you to refine your technique for a polished finish.

Special Stitches
- Sc 3rd Loop: With the front of the stitch facing you, look at the top of the stitch, and find the sideways “V”. Next, bend the stitch to look at the back, and you should see another “V”. You’ll be working into the back loop of that “V”, this is called the 3rd loop. When working in across, like you are in the square the 3rd loop should be facing you.

Chain 21
Row 1: (Working in the back bump) sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. (20 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, (Working in the 3rd Loop) sc in each st across. (20 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across. (20 sts)
Rows 4-43: Repeat Row 3
Row 44: Repeat Row 2
At this point your burp cloth should measure 11 1/2″ long.
Rows 45-85: Repeat Row 3
Row 86: Repeat Row 2
Finishing
*Loosely sl st across the end between the stitches on the last row and up the side between each Row,* repeat all the way around; join with a sl st at the beginning sl st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
