The perfect little 18 inch doll crochet pattern is a 3-in-1 messy bun hat crochet pattern and poncho crochet pattern. With this design, it can be a Messy Bun Hat, Poncho or a Convertible Hat. Pull tight and tie in a bow for the beanie. For the cowl leave loose and pull down around neck. For the poncho, pull down over the shoulders. You can also wear it as a messy bun hat. Level of Difficulty – Beginner/ Intermediate
Yarn – Red Heart With Love – Black and Hot Pink
Hook and Notions – H (5.0 mm) and I (5.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Pattern Notes – Band will be worked with H hook and back loops only in short rows. Body of hat worked with I hook and turning after each round. The box stitch is worked in multiples of 4; therefore, it is easy to adjust the size. Can be worked in one color or multiple colors. Decide on the color for your boxes.
Measurements – Lying flat 6-inches wide, 4 ½ -inches to peak of boxes (12-inch head circumference will fit Doll)
Band – when lying flat and not stretched, band should measure 12 inches.
Gauge – Not important
Stitch Guide in American Terms:
BLO = back loop only
Ch = chain
Dc = double crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
Sc = single crochet
Instructions
Band Instruction (Working with H hook and Black):
Round 1 (leaving a 6-inch tail for sewing band together): Chain 9, sc in second chain from hook and in each stitch across. Turn (8 sts)
Round 2: Chain 1, BLO sc in first sc and in each stitch across. Turn (8sc)
Round 3-42: Repeat Round 2
DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
Holding ends of band together sew them with the 6-inch tail. Fasten off and work in ends.
Body Instruction (Working with I hook, working with Black):
Round 1 (working in the ends of the rows): Chain 1, sc in same space and end of each row around; join with slip stitch into first sc. (42 sc)
Round 2: Chain 5 (counts as a sc and ch 3), work 3 dc in same stitch as join, * skip next 3 stitches, sc in next stitch, (ch 3, 3 dc) in same stitch, * repeat from * to * around; join with a slip stitch in the 2nd chain in the chain 5. Turn (10 boxes)
Attach Hot Pink into chain 3 space at the join of Round 2.
Round 3: Slip Stitch into chain 3 space (ch 3, 3 dc) in same space, * slip stitch into next chain 3 space (ch 3, 3 dc) in same space * repeat from * to * around; slip stitch into the slip stitch of first block. Turn (10 boxes)
Attach Black into chain 3 space at the join of Round 3
Round 4: Repeat Round 3
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Tie Instruction: With 1 strand of each color leaving a 2-inch tail, chain 60, tie off leaving a 2-inch tail. Weave through chain 3 spaces of last row.
