Whether you participated in the original or are joining for the first time, this version offers a new way to experience these timeless squares.
Get ready to join the Riverwood Square CAL, a fun and engaging crochet-along perfect for crocheters of all skill levels! Originally introduced in 2019, we are bringing it back starting Monday, January 27th, and it will run through early May 2025. This updated version maintains the essence of the original while introducing exciting refinements that make it even more enjoyable to create.

What’s New in the Modern Version?

  • ✔ Single-Color Design: Unlike the Classic Version, this CAL focuses on a seamless, modern look with one color throughout.
  • ✔ Updated Stitch Placements: Some squares feature slight modifications to stitch placement for a more refined texture.
  • ✔ Improved Readability: The pattern instructions have been formatted for easier understanding and a smoother crochet experience.
  • ✔ New Edging Options: Each square has its own unique edging, providing variety and creativity in your finished blanket.
  • ✔ Two Border Choices: Select from two different border styles to complete your project.

What to Expect

  • One Square Per Week: From January through February, you will receive a brand-new square pattern each week, complete with step-by-step video tutorials.
  • Two Squares Per Week: Beginning at the end of February through April, we will pick up the pace with two squares per week, giving you a fun challenge to look forward to.
  • Joining & Edging: In early May, you will receive instructions on how to join your squares and add the finishing touches with a beautiful edging.
  • If you get a few weeks behind, you can easily catch up as the squares are quick and easy to whip up.

No matter your experience level, whether you’re a beginner looking to expand your skills or an experienced crocheter eager for a fresh project, this CAL is designed to be both enjoyable and rewarding.

What You Will Need

To get started, gather the following materials:

  • Yarn: #4 worsted weight and choose your favorite colors to personalize your project.
  • Hook Size: I/9 (5.5 mm)
  • Basic Crochet Supplies: Scissors, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle.
  • I highly recommended that you be thinking of how you will lay out the squares. You may want to jot down or take pictures of which squares you will place next to each other and which direction you plan on going with the blanket, or create a note section on your smart device. Either way, keep track of your layout.
