Description

Royally Sapphire Cowl – A Richly Textured Crochet Cowl

Learn how to crochet a soft, textured cowl with my “Royally Sapphire Cowl” pattern!

This cowl is worked side to side in easy rows of puff stitches and crossed double crochets, then seamed into a loop. Soft, cozy, and just a little bit fancy, especially with a touch of sparkle. Wear it close or let it drape and double around your neck. Perfect for:

  • Cozy fall and winter layering
  • A heartfelt handmade gift
  • Adding a little sparkle to everyday outfits

Terms:
US crochet terms

Finished Sizes:

  • Width: 6 (8, 10, 12) inches — choose your size
  • Length: 4½ (5½, 6) feet

Sample shown: 10″ wide × about 4½ feet.

Skill Level:
Beginner/Intermediate

Yarn:
Worsted weight (#4) — I used Caron Simply Soft Party. Approximately 215–645 yards depending on your width and length (the full yardage table is in the PDF).

To substitute:
Caron Simply Soft (without the sparkle) or any soft worsted weight yarn with good drape will show off the texture beautifully.

Hook:
US Size J (6 mm) for the starting chain and US Size I (5.5 mm) for the rows

Notions:
Scissors and a blunt yarn needle

Gauge:
Ch 24 with the J hook. With the I hook, work Row 1 and 3 rows of Row 2 = about 6″ wide (4 Cross Stitches, 3 Puffs & 2 dc)

Stitches Used:

  • Chain and double crochet
  • Puff stitch and Cross Stitch (crossed double crochet)
