I love the way this beanie is reversible. One side has a rigged look and if you turn it inside out it has a smooth look. This hat will make a great gift for someone special! Did I mention it’s a one skein project? That’s right, you only need a small amount of yarn to make this fabulous beanie. Enjoy!

Abbreviations
- Ch/chs = chain/chains
- Dc = double crochet
- Hdc = half double crochet
- St/sts = stitch/stitches
- FPDC = front post double crochet
Pattern Notes
- When I first made this beanie in 2014 I used one skein of Lion Brand, Tweed Stripes ~ Marble. However, you may use any #5 Bulky weight yarn. Just be sure to check your gauge and measurements otherwise your beanie may not fit accordingly.
- Chain 2 at beginning of round counts as a hdc unless otherwise stated.
- Chain 3 at beginning of round counts as a dc unless otherwise stated.
Special Stitches
- FPDC (Front Post Double Crochet): A post stitch is shorter than a normal stitch, you make the turning chain with one chain stitch less than the normal turning chain requires. Yarn over (yo) and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the first and second double crochet of the row below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches. (The hook should now be positioned horizontally behind the double crochet that you’re working around.) Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch. You now have 3 loops on the hook. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice. One front post double crochet (FP dc) is complete.

Chain 4; slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring.
Round 1: Chain 3 (See Notes), work 11 dc into ring; join with a slip stitch into the first dc. (12 dc)
Round 2: Chain 3 (See Notes), dc in same space, *work 2 dc in each dc around;* join with a slip stitch into the first dc. (24 dc)
Round 3: Chain 3 (See Notes), *work 2 dc in the next dc, dc in the next dc,* repeat from *to* around; join with a slip stitch in the first dc. (36 dc)
Round 4: Chain 3 (See Notes), dc in the same stitch as the join, *dc in next 2 dc, work 2 dc in the next dc,* repeat from *to* around; join with a slip stitch in the first dc (48 dc)
Round 5: Chain 3 (See Notes), dc in the next 2 dc, work 2 dc in the next dc, *dc in next 3 dc, work 2 dc in the next dc,* repeat from *to* around; join with a slip stitch in the first dc (60 dc)
Round 6: Chain 3 (See Notes), dc in each stitch around; join with a slip stitch in the first dc (60 dc)
Round 7: Chain 3 (See Notes), FPdc (see special stitches) around each stitch; join with a slip stitch in the first FPdc (60 FPdc)
Rounds 8-9: Chain 3 (See Notes), dc in each stitch around; join with a slip stitch in the first dc. (60 dc)
Round 10: Repeat Round 7 (60 FPdc)
Round 11: Chain 2 (See Notes), hdc in each stitch around; join with a slip stitch in the first hdc. (60 hdc)

Rounds 14-15: Repeat Round 11 (60 hdc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
