ROSE TRELLIS COWL

REQUIREMENTS

Level of Difficulty

• Beginner/Intermediate

Yarn

• 444 yards, DK weight yarn

Hook and Notions

• Size Hook: H (5mm), Scissors, Blunt Needle, Stitch Markers (Optional)

Measurement

• Laying flat 13-inches wide and 20-inches tall (from the bottom to the peak)

Gauge

• 5 patterns + 7 rows = 4 inches

Abbreviations

• Ch/chs = chain/chains
• Dc = double crochet
• Sc = single crochet
• Sk = skip
• Sp = space

Patterns Notes

• Weigh your yarn cake: ________ grams
• This pattern was originally designed in 2017 and has been freshened up over the years.
• Worked length ways
• 444 yards. DK weight Adriafil Kimera in Dumas Fancy
• If I wasn’t using the Foundation Half Double Crochet method, I would use the I crochet hook to chain with, so the chain isn’t too tight. This will also keep it from buckling. If you crochet loosely then you really shouldn’t have to go up a hook size when chaining. Rule of thumb always check your gauge.
• Chain 3 at beginning of row counts as a dc
• Chain 5 at beginning of row counts as a dc and chain 2

Special Stitches

• Foundation Half Double Crochet (FHDC) = Chain 2, yarn over, insert hook into first chain (2^nd from the hook), yarn over, pull up through the first loop on the hook (this is your first chain loop). With 3 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through 3. * Yarn over, insert your hook into the first chain loop, yarn over, pull up a loop (this is your second chain loop), yarn over, pull through 3. 2 fhdc completed. Repeat from * until you reach the desired number of fhdc.

FHDC (Special Stitches) 181 Row 1: Ch 1, sc in the same st as the chain, *sk the next 2 sts, work 5 dc in the next st, sk the next 2 sts, sc in the next st, ch 5, sk the next 5 sts, sc in the next st, sk the next 2 sts, work 5 dc in the next st, sk the next 2 sts, sc in the next st, repeat from * across, ch 2, dc in the last st. Turn Row 2: Ch 5 (pattern notes), sk the first dc and the next 2 dc, *sc in the next dc, sk the next 2 dc, work 5 dc in the next sc, sc in the next ch 5 sp, work 5 dc in the next sc, sk the next 2 dc, sc in the next dc, ch 5, sk the next 5 sts, repeat from * across, ch 2, dc in the last sc. Turn Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the first dc, ch 5, skip the ch 2 space, sk the next sc, sk the next 2 dc, *sc in the next dc, sk the next 2 dc, work 5 dc in the next sc, sk the next 2 dc, sc in the next dc, ch 5, sc in the next ch 5 space, ch 5, sk the next 2 dc, repeat from the * across, sc in the 3^rd ch of the turning ch 5.  Turn Row 4: Ch 5, *sc in the next ch 5 sp, work 5 dc in the next sc, sk the next 2 dc, sc in the next dc, work 5 dc in the next sc, sc in the next ch 5 sp, ch 5, repeat from the * across, ch 2, dc in the last sc. Turn Rows 8-32: Repeat Rows 2-7 Joining: Both ends should be facing RS. Be sure both ends are facing the same direction. Join both ends together with a sl st to form the cowl.
