Level of Difficulty – Beginner/Intermediate Yarn – Caron Simply Soft 4 oz/113 g/204 yds/186 m; color Rosewood. I used roughly 50-75 yards Hook and Notions – Hook Size: H (5mm) Measurement – 12 inches square Gauge – N/A Abbreviations Ch/chs = chain/chains Dc = double crochet Hdc = half double crochet Sc = single crochet Sp/sps = space/spaces St/sts = stitch/stitches Tr = Triple Crochet Special Stitches Extended Mesh Stitch (EMS):  yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through (3 loops on hook), skip next stitch, yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through (5 loops on hook), yarn over, pull yarn through 2 loops, yarn over, pull yarn through remaining 4 loops.  NOTE: each new EMS stitch is started in the * same space * in which the last EMS was completed. Go HERE for stitch tutorial Puff Stitch: (yarn over, insert hook into indicated stitch or space, yarn over and pull up a loop evev with the hook) 4 times (9 loops on hook) yarn over and draw through all 9 loops on hook, chain 1 to close (1 puff st made) Note I used one color Rosewood for my square.  I have put color changes at the ends of rounds if you would like to use more than one of your colors for this square. (12 ch-2 sps) Round 2: Slip Stitch into the first chain 2 space, chain 3 (See notes), work [2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc] into the same space, work 2 dc in the next 2 spaces, * work (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in the next sp), work 2 dc in the next 2 spaces, * repeat from * to * twice; join with a slip stitch in the top of the beginning chain 3. (44 sts) Fasten Off & Change Colors Round 3: Chain 5 (counts as a dc and ch2), skip the next 2 stitches, work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner chain 1 space, * work (Ch 2, skip next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts) twice, chain 2, work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner chain 1 space, * repeat from * to * twice; chain 2, skip the next 2 stitches, dc in the next 2 stitches, chain 2, skip the next 2 stitches; dc in the next stitch; join with a slip stitch in top of chain 3. (64 sts) Fasten Off & Change Colors Round 4: Slip Stitch to the next space; chain 3, dc in the same space, chain 2, skip the next 2 stitches, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the corner space, * work ( Ch 2, skip next 2 sts, 2 dc in next space) 3 times, chain 2, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the corner space, * repeat from * to * 2 more times, work (Ch 2, skip next 2 sts, 2 dc in next space) twice; chain 2; join with a slip stitch in the top of chain 3. (80 sts) Round 5: Chain 3, dc in the next dc, dc in the chain 2 space, dc in the next 2 dc, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner space, * dc in next 2 dc, work (2 dc in next ch 2 space, dc in next 2 dc) 3 times, work 2 dc in next chain 2 space, dc in next 2 dc, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner space, * repeat from * to * 2 more times, work (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in ch 2 space) 3 times; join with a slip stitch in top of chain 3. (22 dc each side and 4 ch 2 sps total 88 sts) Fasten Off & Change Colors Round 6: Attach yarn to any chain 2 corner space. Chain 2 (counts as 1st dc), work (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into corner space; chain 1, skip the next stitch, * EMS in the next stitch, chain 1,* repeat from * to * to next corner; work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the corner chain 2 space; ** chain 1, skip the next stitch; (EMS in next, ch 1) to next corner space; work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner chain 2 space; repeat from ** once; chain 1, skip the next stitch; (EMS in next, ch1) to beginning chain 2, slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain 2. (10 EMS; 11 ch 1 spaces, on Each side 16 dc, 4 x ch2 spaces – total stitch count = 108) Round 7: Chain 2 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next stitch, * work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into corner chain 2 space; dc in each top of EMS from previous round, and also in each chain 1 space to next corner space; repeat from * ot * twice; work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the corner chain 2 space; dc in each top of EMS from previous round and in each chain 1 space to the beginning chain 2; slip stitch to the beginning chain 2. Fasten off & Change Colors.  (29 dc each side = 129 dc & 4 x ch2 spaces) Round 8: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), * work puff stitch, chain 1, skip next stitch, * repeat from * to * to the corner chain 2 space (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner sp**, repeat from * to ** , repeat from * to * to beginning puff stitch, slip stitch in the top of the puff stitch to join. (16 puff sts each side, 4 ch 2 sps) Round 9: Chain 2 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next chain 1 space, * dc in top of each puff stitch and chain 1 space around working (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner chain 2 space. (35 dc each side = 140 dc and 4 x ch 2 sps) Fasten off and weave in ends.
